### Acknowledgement of checking existent issues - [x] I have checked if my issue has already been reported, and I am certain that my problem has not already been addressed. - [x] I have attached full logs, screenshots, and other relevant info, and understand that if I haven't, my issue will be closed and ignored. - [ ] I agree that I just mindlessly checked every box without actually reading anything. ### What problem did you encounter? **Overview** Hello! This issue is more a report of my research and findings regarding the **menu crash** that occurs when you open the **ROBLOX menu**. On `stable` and `build-repo 304626`, if you play a game and open the **ROBLOX menu** (either via `Esc` or clicking the menu button in the top left corner) after **roughly 3-4 minutes of gameplay**, the game will crash with a `SIGKILL/"Unrecognized Instruction"` error. ``` --------------------------------------------------------- FATAL: Unrecognized Instruction --------------------------------------------------------- Received signal: 4 (Illegal Instruction) Faulting RIP: 0x7fec8d339db7 Instruction Bytes: [f, b, bf, e, 0, 0, 0, be] This program requires a CPU with x86-64-v2 features. Check your configuration, verify file integrity, and try again. If nothing works, you should probably report this as a bug. --------------------------------------------------------- ``` This issue is related to other issues in the past that reported an `Unrecognized Instruction` similar to the one above, which have been marked as closed (#2351 and #2368). I think that across these issues, two crashes appeared: the **menu crash** (which is discussed in this issue), and the **NVIDIA crash**; related to a bug in NVIDIA drivers (#2180 and #2327). I believe that these two crashes can be confused with oneanother pretty easily, especially because they produce the same `Received signal` and `Instruction bytes`. A similar logic can also be applied to the **silent crash** considering that this crash seems to only occur when you open the ROBLOX menu **after 3-4 minutes**. As a result, especially with all of these 3 crashes together; it can be easy to confuse these crashes with oneanother. I assume that by @V3L0C1T13S' [comment](https://github.com/vinegarhq/sober/issues/2351#issuecomment-5040719143) in #2351 and her [comment](https://github.com/vinegarhq/sober/issues/2208#issuecomment-5040776768) in #2208 the **silent crash** and **NVIDIA crash** have been addressed. I was able to confirm that the silent crash is fixed; unsure about the NVIDIA crash, though, as I did not test it. **Testing** The main finding here is that on the test build (build-repo 304626), the silent crash is fixed, but the menu crash still persists. I've ran 5 "tests" (which is just me pressing either Esc/Tab every 30 seconds on an empty baseplate) to get logs and crash dumps + perform A/B testing to ensure that the **menu crash** aren't because of the following: 1. **Not the Flatpak build:** The menu crash is not caused by the **silent crash** caused by the current Flatpak build (#2208 and #2332). Test 1 and 2 uses the `stable` Flatpak build to showcase that the **menu crash** and **silent crash** occur on those builds. However, Test 3, 4, 5 use the test build `(build-repo 304626`) to ensure that it is not because of the **silent crash**, and to also show that the **menu crash** persists on this build as well. 2. **Not the game:** I was able to replicate the **menu crash** in **any game**, but to really make sure that it wasn't because of the game; all of my testing took place in an [empty baseplate](https://www.roblox.com/games/95206881/Baseplate). As a quick note, there are a lot of cheaters that do play these, so you may see some _interesting things_ if you do watch the test videos. 3. **Not the NVIDIA crash:** Throughout all of my tests, my GPU, the **AMD Radeon RX 7600** is used. More information about my specifications can be seen below. As a result, I would not run into the **NVIDIA crash** (#2180 and #2327) and so, it is unrelated to the **menu crash**. This is discussed below in the environment, but I do also have a **NVIDIA GT 103**0 that I personally use to ensure that my secondary monitor works when using GPU passthrough. However, I ensured that the GT 1030 was disabled during testing, and you can see by `vulkaninfo` below that it is not in use. 4. **Only the menu, and no other instances of CoreGui:** The **menu crash** does not occur if you open the chat or the player menu. It only occurs if you open the **ROBLOX menu**. I have not observed the **menu crash** when doing anything else, but if anyone is able to produce the same crash when doing something else, please feel free to comment. **Environment** `fastfetch` ``` .-------------------------: bacon@bounce .+=========================. ------------ :++===++==================- :++- OS: CachyOS x86_64 :*++====+++++=============- .==: Host: MS-7C02 (1.0) -*+++=====+***++==========: Kernel: Linux 7.1.5-1-cachyos =*++++========------------: Uptime: 4 hours, 40 mins =*+++++=====- ... Apologies for that. `build-repo 304626` (the dev build) can be installed via: `flatpak install https://dl.flathub.org/build-repo/304626/org.vinegarhq.Sober.flatpakref` Do notice that because of #2375, you will need to install `Roblox 2.7.3.0` for the build. You can download it from [APKMirror](https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/roblox-corporation/roblox/roblox-2-730-790-release/roblox-2-730-790-android-apk-download/download/?key=2e1a674940d8c0d8b72a8c15ccf37bb7ee9bf579). For crash dumps, I've appended `.txt` to the end of the crash dumps so that they can be attached on GitHub. Keyboard input is shown in the bottom left corner with `showmethekey` to display when I perform actions. To ensure that everything was clean, after each test, I reinstalled Sober using: `flatpak uninstall --delete-data org.vinegarhq.Sober` For future reference if you're looking to report similar issues: Logs can be found at `~/.var/app/org.vinegarhq.Sober/data/sober/sober_logs/` Crashes can be found at `~/.var/app/org.vinegarhq.Sober/data/sober/crashes/` I also had to compress my videos down quite a lot in order to meet GitHub's <10 MB limit for attaching files, so sorry if the videos are super poor quality :( **Test 1** Procedure: `stable` build, press `Esc` every 30 seconds to open the **ROBLOX menu**. Results: At `3:30`, the **menu crash** occurs, causing the `SIGKILL/Unexpected Instruction`. Conclusion: The **menu crash** can be reproduced on the `stable` build. https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/89acd04f-ac8c-45ac-8287-63311227ea33 [test1_2026-07-28_15-56-07.log](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/30488873/test1_2026-07-28_15-56-07.log) [test1_2026-07-28 20:14:41.419847545 UTC.txt](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/30488925/test1_2026-07-28.20.14.41.419847545.UTC.txt) ``` --------------------------------------------------------- FATAL: Unrecognized Instruction --------------------------------------------------------- Received signal: 4 (Illegal Instruction) Faulting RIP: 0x7fec8d339db7 Instruction Bytes: [f, b, bf, e, 0, 0, 0, be] This program requires a CPU with x86-64-v2 features. Other than that, I would like to say: thank you to VinegarHQ for creating **Sober** and **Vinegar**. Especially considering **Hyperion**, it is incredible the work that you folks have done here. If this was open-source, I'm sure that there would be plenty lot of developers who are willing to contribute, but I understand fully why this project needs to remain closed-source. **Much love ❤️** If anyone else is able to reproduce the **menu crash**, please feel free to share your **log** and **crash dump** here, as well as your specifications/environment. More information would be delightful to solve this issue. **tl;dr:** On `stable` or `build-repo 304626`, if you play for 3-4 minutes and open the **ROBLOX menu**, ROBLOX will crash with a `SIGKILL/"Unrecognized Instruction"` error. **Menu crash** appears to be unrelated to the **silent crash**, the **NVIDIA crash**, and can be reproduced on all games. ### Roblox Experience link https://www.roblox.com/games/95206881/Baseplate
