Multi reference selector has grey background but label/placeholder still white

Minor visual bug, note how the background of the label is white not grey also in the case of multi ref selector - maybe the label should get transparent background so as to blend in to whatever is around it. Transparent probably doesn't work for the part where the label has moved up onto the boundary of the textfield once one has clicked because we need a background there to cover the outline of the textfield.
