Backspace not working in GChat
bug
### Steps to reproduce
1. Enable Thumb-key as keyboard.
2. Open GChat/Google Chat.
3. Type something.
4. Backspace it letter-by-letter (i.e. by tapping backspace)
5. Characters are not erased.
### Expected behavior
Backspace should erase one character per tap.
### Actual behavior
Haptic feedback triggers appropiately to indicate button press was registered but no characters are erased.
### version of the program
5.1.3
### Android version
Android 14
### Device
Google Pixel 5
### Other details
GChat is the only app I've observed this bug affecting. Long-press to backspace a whole word works as expected.
