Root not recognized by Permission Manager X

Permission Manager X does not recognize root even when it is granted. I have been using it for years, and never had a problem until a couple of days ago - possibly started after latest Magisk udpate I have uninstalled, and reinstalled both the Playstore version, and the FOSS version from F-droid. Neither recognize that the device is rooted even when granted root by Magisk. Permission Manager X give the message "Granting root privileges failed. Are you rooted?" All other apps requiring root recognize root and are functioning properly.
