Running the extract service locally on command line

Hello! This project is excellent and I've used extract.bbbike.org for quite a number of bike touring adventures with my Garmin eTrex. Just out of curiosity: is there any way to run the extract service locally from the command line? Even just some pointers in the right direction would be very helpful!
