I am sitting home, typing on my computer, drinking a sprite, while the rest of the world works. I have a college degree, I have aspirations, and I'm sitting here on my duff afraid to do anything productive. I graduated college not three weeks ago - I should be filled with vim and vigor, out grabbing the world by the balls and reining it in.
Instead, it took me the last three weeks to write a resume. A draft of a resume. That is the only thing of significance which I have done in the last three weeks. Besides that, I've read a couple of books, played frisbee, and played basketball. I've also kept my parent's house clean, like the good housekeeper that I am.
I have projects that I want to do, articles to write, but I can't even get myself up to drive to the grocery store for some cheese and bread. I read crap on the internet all day, refresh my comments here, play cribbage on yahoo! games (yahoo! indeed). Right now, I'm working on burning the remainder of my CD collection into MP3s, even while my bank account is ready to dip down to critical (can't pay the car insurance) levels.
Perhaps the problem is one of want, of desire - what do I REALLY want to do? If I really wanted to write the program that I claim to, I'd be doing it. If I really wanted to save up enough money to move out west, I'd be doing it. If I really wanted to continue researching what I was doing during school, I'd be doing it. Instead, I want to be a lazy bum, getting whatever I can off my parents and playing sports all the time. What you say is not nearly as significant as what you do - and what I do is conscientously avoid anything with a hint of intelligence.
