Oracle frikking sucks (Diaries)

I really hate the fact that I need to install a 560-meg client library for my database class. If I had wanted to install it on my linux partition instead of my windows one (which now means I'll end up using windows more) I would need to download 1.5 gigs worth of files. Frikking ridiculous.

Is there a poll inside?

Well, I've not been very productive lately. The research that I'm supposed to be doing has been drowned out by other things. My other classes require work, I've had labs to grade for the course I'm a TA in, and I just turned 21.
About that, I had a good time. Although I don't quite remember the end of the night, I definitely remember having fun, and now I can drink without a stigma in my country. Very nice.

Do you mean the client tools, or just the driver and required files? I know nothing about Oracle, that just sounds like a hell of a lot. Microsoft's MDAC is 6-7 megs and it has all the drivers you need for SQL server. The client tools are like 50MB I think.

AFAIK, Oracle requires you to download 560 megs to install the windows client, or 1.5 gigs to install the linux client (and you may have to install the server too, I haven't successfully downloaded the whole thing). You don't have to install anywhere near that amount (my windows install came to 141 meg) but you do have to download it.

1.5 gigs for the CLIENT? No. I've installed Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition on Linux and the whole install ( not the client, the whole install ) was around 1.5 gigs and I chose some stuff I probably don't need. The runInstaller says the client piece is about 250 meg, that includes a ton of stuff you don't need and can choose not to install if you don't want to. Unless you're talking about something other than an actual Oracle install.

The a's might win the series, but Pedro doesn't get owned by anyone in the playoffs. He plays like a man posessed. Pedro wants a ring, even if he has to pitch every other day to get it. The a's definitely have better pitching, but pedro will beat hudson when it's all on the line.

The problem with your arguement is that when Little takes Pedro out in the seventh inning, then Boston has to rely upon its bullpen. And you know how that goes. I certainly wouldn't want Kim on the mound with the game on the line. I think that Boston's bullpen will be the deciding factor in the playoffs. If its good, the A's are in trouble. If its like its been most of the year, I think the A's will do it.

But I think we can both agree that the Yankees will have their hands full with Minnesota.

I look forward to it as much as a boston fan can look forward to a postseason series; that is to say, I'm scared they'll win it, because they'll lose later. Pitching wins games, but the Red Sox have so much hitting.

Also, I think we can both agree that the Yankees are the spawn of satan as well.

I read somewhere that pitching wins games in the long run, but hitting wins in the short term. So it'll be a nice match-up: best pitching versus best hitting. I'm still pissed about Manny hitting that homer off Foulke in the ninth inning in Oakland this year. I suppose its karma balancing things out when the Sox left 17 ROB at Fenway.
