llimllib's Diary

I just won at poker. Sure, I only won $15 bucks, but that hardly matters.

We played tournament-style texas hold-em. The buy-in was $5, and there were 5 of us. It took me two and a half hours to take out the rest of the field, and I had to go all-in twice (both times with moderately good hands). I was saved on one of them when the river gave me a full house.

Poker is an adrenaline rush, I can barely sit still, but it's not because of the money.

Hold em. (5.00 / 1) (#9)

I play both online and in friendly tournaments. Great game. There's actually a poker room in my area that I may start going to for more live-action games, as online games tend to boil down to pot odds rather than bluffing and reading people.

live is much better (none / 0) (#10)

I played online for the past few days to prepare for this game, and it's way less entertaining. A showdown lacks the thrill of real money when all you're changing is a number on the screen. Also, as you mentioned, the reading and bluffing and bullshitting is much better live.

Peace.

$5 x 5 = $25

$25 - $5 = $20

Ever get second place and third place going all in together on the final hand? Half their stake back each?

I'd say that second place is the chip leader going into that hand.

any skills I might have thought I had at backgammon are ruined by the fact that my mom can consistently whoop my ass at it. Always.

Lately, I've been trying to get good at poker, as my previous attempt at getting good at Go ran out of steam. Come to think of it, I always get obsessed with a game for a couple months (longer or shorter, depending on circumstances) then stop playing it.

Peace.

I expect abusive comments from you. I'm sorry, but this acting serious shit is just not gonna work. Don't tell me you're getting soft in your old age.

Peace.
