llimllib's Diary

Why do you do this to me?

The Scene

So, last night, I'm hanging out in my suite. A couple of my buddies are here, and we're having a good time. I walk over to the room of K, a girl that I've been hooking up with lately, and invite her up here. She comes up with some friends, and they're hanging out, having a good time too. Shortly after they get here, my ex-girlfriend A IMs me and ask if she can come up. I say, sure, why not? Come on up.

All about A

There's a lot of backstory on A. She and I started hooking up in our freshman year (I'm now a senior at college) while she had a boyfriend. This boyfriend, B, was a total asshole, and I had no problem doing this. I assumed that she would break up with him and start going out with me, but I wasn't tremendously hung up on it, being a freshman not looking for a serious relationship. After a month or two, she did break up with him, and we began hanging out a lot.

About a month after that, I heard from friends that she had met another guy at a party, and one thing had led to another. When I confronted her, I started asking general questions about us and, eventually, him. She lied about it until I told her I knew that it had happened. At this point, the end of freshman year was near and I was headed for Spain in a few months. I talked to her very little.

While I was in Spain, I was pretty bored during the day, because my spanish was a lot better than most of my fellow students'. As such, I spent a lot of time in internet cafes playing chess, drinking coffee or beer, and IMing friends from home. I spent a lot of time talking to her, and we always had great conversations. When I talk to A there is never a dull moment and we both laugh a lot - it's what attracted me to want a relationship with her.

When I came back from Spain, we hung out a couple nights a week, but she had a boyfriend during the day. We still hooked up off and on, until she broke up with her boyfriend and got a new one. I decided, at this point, that I wanted to have a relationship with her, and that I couldn't be "just friends" with her. We had a tearful breakup, she said she needed my conversation and wished she didn't have a boyfriend.

That was about a year and a half ago. This summer, she was living on campus, as was I. Again, I was bored in the afternoon, because I did most of my research in the morning or late at night. She still has a boyfriend, a different one, and she's been with him for most of that year and a half. Everything was strictly friendly, we'd go get lunch or cook dinner together, but there was obviously sexual tension. We weren't built to be friends.

Back To The Present

As soon as she came up last night, she was immediately all over me. She saw me in my room, while K was out in the common room playing beer pong, and was giving me obvious physical attention. Because I wanted to hook up with K, and not to be with A while she had a boyfriend, I led her to the area between my room and the common room and told her.

Of course, this precipitated tears, and she said that she was going to leave. I took her back into my room, while everyone was now in the common room, and calmed her down. I gave her a beer and asked her to stay, and she agreed to. We went back into the common room. Once back in the party, she did not discontinue touching me suggestively. Eventually, I brought her back into my room with the full intention of telling her that, if she wanted me, she could tell her boyfriend to fuck off.

I did say that, although not in those words. She again went to tears, and consoling her turned to kissing her, and eventually to locking the door to my room. This was a big deal, because I had all the beer in my room. Long story short, I ended up sleeping in her room across campus.

I can't believe that I hooked up with her again. I can't believe that even if she started going out with me, that she'd be faithful to me. Hell, she's cheated on three of her boyfriends with me. Even worse, I can't think about anything else at all. I love talking to A, but I'm not sure that I could ever trust her. She's also beautiful, and in my head. I think I needed to write this to try and convince myself that I could avoid her. We'll see.

She just IMed me...

So long as your future diaries remain this good, I'll take K off your hands free of charge!! All your problems solved! Erm.. except for that whole trust thing. You should talk to her (A) about her uh.. compulsive cheating.

I actually figured out the (incredibly simple) chord progression for that song while fooling around on the piano the other day. Once I get back to my computer and have access to Finale I'll probably arrange it in pseudo-choir form (like what I did with the DDR song Dam Dariram). Well it's not pseudo-choir, it is a standard SATB choir, but it's pseudo in that I don't follow all of Bach's little rules that I learned in music theory. Because I like funky chords.
If there is hope, it lies in the proles.

i love music theory. i know bach's little rules forward and backward, but since there is no decent composition software on linux, i haven't composed anything since high school...

I think at least some software exists on Linux, nothing that great but you should be able to get something that accepts MIDI-IN which is the best way to compose anyway (I can't stand clicking all the little notes).

Bach's little rules are very cool, albeit a tad inhibitive.  I'm quite fascinated by his Inventions in particular (I still have his 8th memorized from back when I played it for a recital years and years and years ago), but yeah.  Well obviously the man was a genius, but I think it'd be really cool if somehow we could build a time machine and introduce folks like Bach and Mozart and Beethoven and Rachmaninoff to folks like Ellington and Brubeck and Davis and Coltrane.

Granted they'd probably not get along at all, but it'd still be interesting.
If there is hope, it lies in the proles.

After reading this diary, I've come to realize that "girls" are at least as much--if not more--of a problem than "trolls".
