Yeah, so, for my halloween costume, I was a geek. A stretch, I know, but I look a little too convincing. Does anyone know where you can still buy pocket protectors? That would have really rounded out my costume nicely. Unfortunately, when I went to the senior party on Saturday, I found that a whole bunch of girls also dressed as geeks. Disappointing.
But, I digress. Friday night I walked around wearing the glasses on top of regular clothes. On a whim, I decided to have nearly every girl I know, and some I don't, put on the glasses so I could take pictures. Believe it or not, there are more than 2 pictures.

When I left the thrift store (on Friday afternoon, naturally), I intended to be Stuart Smalley. I had bought a cardigan, a really ugly shirt, some khakis I could hike up, and some plaid grey socks. I bought the glasses because I couldn't remember if Franken wore his glasses when he played Smalley. However, when I got home, I found that my cardigan and shirt didn't really match Smalley's, who also didn't wear glasses, so I opted for the ease of the geek costume.
Friday night, I didn't feel like wearing my costume, and I just put on the glasses on a whim. I didn't really have anything planned for the evening, so I put my beer in a coffee mug (we don't get harassed if we do that - my school's liberal about alcohol) and thought I'd see what parties were going on. My friends downstairs were having a party with a different fraternity than mine, but I knew the party hosts (people who can't drink and are supposed to control the party), so I hung out outside with them for a while. Soon, my suite was hopping and their party had opened to the public, so I had a fine time drinking and flirting.
(I'm in a very parenthetical mood today)
Saturday night was the night of the senior class halloween party, which I had heard is one of the best parties around. Naturally, I was in attendance, this time in full costume. My buddy Jeff went as only the finest of women, and Bryan is in the background in his militia (too lazy to actually dress up) gear. Other excellent costumes were in attendance. A group of Peanuts characters took home one group prize, and an oompa-loompa and various other charlie and the chocolate factory characters took the other. The girls got mad when the individual costume winner went to a girl basically dressed in a body stocking with about 3 leaves glued to it (I was OK with the situation).
I was not in a particularly good mood Saturday, hence no pictures of the winners, or even of me with many girls. You ever feel that some nights you just don't have your game? I just couldn't get comfortable on saturday night, and spent most of it drinking whiskey and cokes from the open bar.

In the homecoming gallery there was a bunch of green and yellow, so maybe University of Oregon?

(ps, cool pics. I love Holloween pictures. We need to see a full body shot to see the hiked-up polyester pants.)

ewww.

The idea of sticking your classmates in the stame rez with you is interesting though. (Is that what they mean by Clustering?) Could be good or bad depending on who's in your classes, I suppose.

Wouldn't work at my school with only ~30 in the program (everyone takes the same set courses with everybody else) though. Most people also can only handle rez for the first year. It's lame.

I live with 7 of my buddies in a suite, that's the closest I've seen to "clustering". Also, my school owns probably 20 houses on main street, and some of them are special interest houses (i.e. no drugs house, art house, honors house, etc), so perhaps that's what they mean.

Here, in beautiful (snark) Collegeville PA, you don't have much of a choice besides residence halls, as we're pretty rural and there's no affordable housing around us. Also, you can choose to live in a regular dorm, in a suite, or in a house, so there's good variety of options. Like you said, I couldn't be in a "computer science" house, because there's probably only 20-25 of us. There's only 1400 people in my school (and 800+ are women :).

In my Electronic Engineering Technology (for wussies like me who can't handle a full degree) class there was 1 female classmate in the first year. I would be surprised if there were more then 2 when I get back (I won't graduate in the same class I started in as I did a co-op semester in the middle, which screwed me up completely because I essentially get 8 months to kick around before I go back because I only managed one co-op semester.. but I digress :)

Now I'm not saying that it would increase or decrease the quality of my education by having women in my class, but a guy can only a sausage party for so long.

It makes me think I should be training to be a dental assistant. Last year's class was 100% female as far as I could tell. You can only walk through the health section of the health/education/ESL/business/trades building so many times. :-)

You'd think, at a college, being a student in the math department, I could have found one. But, the professors only have them at their houses (except for one of them, who has a huge one in his office, too big) and I didn't think of my costume early enough to borrow one. As for the calculators, well, I didn't want to lose any of them while I was drunk, see?

I whipped together a geek costume out of stuff in my desk drawer and closet in 15 minutes. I even had pocket protectors to hand out to people :oP. I had the tricorder (NextGen style, of course) and communicator ("Future Imperfect" alternate universe, captain's rank) from when I was a Star Trek character 4 years running in middle school. I had my iPod and digital camera. I had my pant cuffs rolled up. I wore socks with sandals. I jammed my retainer into my mouth. I mis-buttoned my shirt. I got into a drunken Kirk vs. Picard (NextGen!!!) argument with a girl on the swim team who I didn't even know was a trekkie.

The only thing I was missing were the glasses - I don't need vision correction, and oddly enough, none of my friends were willing to let me part their lenses from their frames... Too bad, because I even had a band-aid all ready to "fix" them :o).

Screw that, any geek knows that duct tape can fix anything. If you have duct tape and a hammer, and you can't fix the problem, it's probably not worth fixing.

Further, it seems to me you went as a nerd, not a geek. I have no Star Trek stuff, and that would have been a different costume.

Finally, where the hell did you get the pocket protectors?
