Our Mission

Academic Workflow Suite exists to solve a simple but pervasive problem: educators spend too much time on administrative tasks and not enough time on what matters—teaching, research, and mentoring students.

We believe that technology should augment human expertise, not replace it. Our tools use AI to handle the repetitive, time-consuming aspects of academic work while keeping educators in control of the final output. The result? Better feedback for students, more time for educators, and improved learning outcomes for everyone.

As an open-source project, we're committed to transparency, privacy, and community collaboration. Academic Workflow Suite will always be free and accessible to educators worldwide.

How It Started

Academic Workflow Suite was born from frustration. As lecturers at a large university, we found ourselves spending 20+ hours per week marking assignments for our courses. Despite the time investment, student feedback was often rushed and inconsistent.

We experimented with using AI tools to help with marking, but quickly ran into problems: existing tools required uploading student data to external servers (a privacy nightmare), produced generic feedback that didn't match our teaching style, and had no integration with our university's systems.

So we built our own solution. What started as a Python script for personal use evolved into a comprehensive suite of tools. Colleagues asked to use it. Students noticed the improvement in feedback quality. And Academic Workflow Suite was born.

In November 2025, we released v1.0 as free and open-source software. Today, thousands of educators worldwide use it to streamline their workflows while maintaining quality and privacy.

Concept & Prototype

Initial Python script created to automate feedback generation. Shared with 5 colleagues for testing.

March 2024

Alpha Release

First functional version with GUI. Tested by 50 educators across 10 universities. Privacy-first architecture established.

August 2024

Beta Program

Public beta launched with 500+ early adopters. Major features added: LMS integration, batch processing, custom rubrics.

November 2025

v1.0 Release

Official 1.0 release as free and open-source software under MIT license. Featured in leading academic technology publications.
